Kolkata Knight Riders 2021 Betting Odds

There are eight franchises that compete in the Indian Premier League over 60 matches. The initial stage of the tournament is a round-robin where the outfits face off twice home and away. The top four teams in the table advance to the post-season where they battle for the crown.

In the minds of the bookmakers and their predictions ahead of the event, KKR are not expected to contend for the crown this season. IPL 2021 betting trends show that odds for the Kolkata Knight Riders franchise range in the 7.00 region, so there is value in betting on the team to win the title this year. And given their consistency, it could be a solid punt to take with the prospect of a decent return.

The Knight Riders have won the IPL on two occasions, although the last of their triumphs came in 2014. They reached the playoffs for the three years on the bounce between 2016 and 2018, only to lose in the Preliminary Stage in each attempt.

Kolkata failed to reach the post-season in IPL 2019, although only on net run rate after finishing fifth in the table. Jacques Kallis’ men were made to rue a six-game losing streak in the middle of the campaign.

Brendon McCullum took over coaching duties for the 2020 campaign, and he revamped the Kolkata Knight Riders team through the IPL auction. Eoin Morgan and Pat Cummins strengthened the batting and bowling ranks, along with the leadership of the former and his exploits with England in the white-ball formats. Although there were improvements last term, the Knight Riders failed once again to qualify for the playoffs.

Shubman Gill, Nitish Rana and Morgan were outstanding with the bat in IPL 2020. Gill took significant steps forward in his development, while Morgan continued to excel in the format. Cummins was the most expensive player in IPL history after signing for 15.5 crore in the IPL 2020 auction. However, the Aussie had an average season and more will be demanded of him in IPL 2021, along with Sunil Narine, who was also underwhelming last term.

The additions of Harbhajan Singh and Shakib Al-Hasan are intriguing. However, the Kolkata Knight Riders betting odds suggest they are slight outsiders for IPL glory, and they will have to prove themselves against the elite teams in the competition before they can challenge for the trophy.

The list of Kolkata Knight Riders IPL 2021 players appears to be a powerful unit on paper, but championships are only won on the field.

McCullum will enter the IPL 2021 season with a balanced roster, featuring talented fast bowlers in the form of Australia’s Cummins, arguably the best paceman in the world, along with New Zealand international Lockie Ferguson. Cummins was underwhelming in IPL 2020, but has the talent to bounce back and become KKR’s statistics leader in the wicket column this term.

Spinner, Kuldeep Yadav, is one of the leading players at his position in the T20 format, while Sunil Narine hands the Knight Riders a complement to the left-arm leggie at the other end, having twice being named IPL MVP. Andre Russell boasts big-hitting and deadly yorkers with his right-arm pace, offering balance in the middle order between the batsmen and bowlers.

The batting ranks look solid at the top of the order with Shubman Gill and Nitish Rana or Rinku Singh alongside him. Morgan has ample IPL and international experience to hold down the middle order, while Dinesh Karthik holds the fort with the gloves. There are few weaknesses in the side, but their bowling must be the strongest point.

Cummins and Ferguson are a devastating one-two punch at the top, while Narine and Yadav can hold down the middle overs to keep the stranglehold on. Russell is the x-factor with the bat and ball, and he will be the crucial player to hold the team together.

A potential pitfall could be the inexperience at the top of the order, although stocks have been replenished elsewhere. The signing of Harbhajan could be a vital one for KKR to provide an additional spinning option, while Shakib presents them with a high-quality all-rounder.

The only notable departure was that of Tom Banton, who is not on the Kolkata Knight Riders 2021 player list. Other than that, McCullum is blessed with a strong outfit for the IPL 2021 season.

Best Kolkata Knight Riders Players 2021

The Kolkata Knight Riders made a statement in the IPL 2020 auction by making Cummins the most expensive overseas player in the competition’s history. They bid INR 15.50 crore to secure the services of the Australian, who played four games for the franchise in the 2014 and the 2015 campaigns.

Cummins also played for Delhi Daredevils in 2017, and although he has developed a reputation as one of the leading fast bowlers in the world, his IPL statistics have not been overwhelmingly impressive. His form in IPL 2020 epitomised his issues, taking 12 wickets in 14 matches at an average of 34.08. Give the expenditure of his contract, KKR will want a lot more from the Aussie in his second full term with the franchise.

Morgan inherited the leadership duties last season from Karthik. The England captain performed well with the bat to finish second in the Kolkata Knight Riders stats for most runs with 418 behind only Gill. The left-hander held KKR together in the middle order, and he will continue to provide vital experience behind a young opening partnership. His value will be felt more in the field where his nous will be on display to make the correct decisions regarding his choice of bowlers and field placings. It could make all the difference.

Yadav has been a stalwart for KKR, but has been off the boil in the last two campaigns. The left-arm leggie could not find his form in last year’s IPL, and he has been left out of the India T20 side as a result. There’s still time for him to regain his touch.

Narine too has not quite been as effective as he was during the early stages of his IPL career. Both spinners are due to thrive sooner rather than later, and it’s time for them to produce for the KKR. The presence of Harbhajan and Shakib might just jolt them into life.

Russell has been a cornerstone of the Kolkata Knight Riders for the past eight years. He is the man for the big occasion and does not disappoint under the spotlight. Look for him to have another consistent term with bat and ball.

Kolkata Knight Riders have won the IPL twice in their history. Their first triumph came in 2012, after five years of underachievement. Under the charge of Trevor Bayliss, the Knight Riders qualified for the playoffs as the second seed after winning 10 of their 16 games.

They then produced a fine performance to see off the Delhi Daredevils in the Preliminary Round to qualify for the Final. Kolkata faced off against Chennai Super Kings in the final and were set 191 to win their first crown.

An innings of 89 from Manvinder Bisla and a half-century for Jacques Kallis made the difference as the Knight Riders were able to claim the title by five wickets with only two balls to spare.

Kolkata were unable to defend their crown in the following campaign, but they bounced back in 2014 and returned to the summit of the IPL. Bayliss’ men qualified as the second seed after winning nine of their 14 games. Kolkata then faced the Kings XI Punjab in the Final.

Wriddhiman Saha scored the first century in an IPL Final to set the Knight Riders a daunting total of 200 to chase to win the title. Manish Pandey produced a special innings in response, scoring 94 at a rapid rate to allow the Knight Riders to successfully chase down the score with three balls remaining.

Since then, the Knight Riders have been frustrated in their attempts to reach the Final. They qualified for the playoffs for three-straight years, winning twice to reach the second Qualifier Stage in 2017 and 2018, only to be crushed by the Mumbai Indians three years ago before losing out to SunRisers Hyderabad in the following campaign.

In IPL 2020 they narrowly missed out on a place in the post-season on net run-rate. Morgan and his team were made to rue a costly defeat to CSK in their penultimate game. The skipper knows more about his team heading into IPL 2021, therefore, and it would be no surprise to see them in contention for the crown or at least a playoff berth.

Kolkata Knight Riders Stats and Facts

Will Kolkata Knight Riders Win IPL 2021?

Kolkata Knight Riders have a strong chance to go all the way to win their third crown in IPL 2021. They have finished agonisingly outside of the playoff places in their last two tournaments on net run-rate. Under Morgan last season, they drifted in and out of the top four, but ultimately lost out because of a costly defeat to CSK in their 13th game.

KKR have the talent at their disposal, they just have to prove their ability on the field. On paper, their pace attack is one of the best in the IPL. Cummins and Ferguson are two bowlers that most franchises would snap their hands off for to lead their bowling ranks.

Their issues have come with their spinners of late, as Yadav and Narine have not performed in IPL 2019 and 2020. Varun Chakravarthy was excellent last season and should be installed as the starter from day one this term. Harbhajan and Shakib will provide good competition for places, if not start instead of Yadav and Narine.

McCullum and Morgan have good options across their roster. Their batting could be light outside of Gill and Morgan. Rinku Singh has talent, but barely played last season. Ben Cutting could be a player to watch to float around the order given his ability.

There are quality individuals in the side for KKR to make a run, and if McCullum and Morgan can blend them together, then the franchise have an opportunity to chase the IPL title.
